Our Provincial Government has a grant program in place to encourage homeowners to reduce energy consumption and to provide for a cleaner environment. A good number of the products we carry qualify, such as: wood and pellet burning units, solar hot water panels and mini-split heat pumps.
Our experience is that the installation of a wood or pellet stove or heat pump will cost in the $3,500 to $4,000 range so if you qualify your grant could be $700 to $800!
We will give you some information on the program, but perhaps the best advice is to just come and see us at 621 Rothesay Ave.
Province of New Brunswick “Existing Homes Energy Efficiency Upgrades Program”
This program is administered by Efficiency New Brunswick to help homeowners make their homes more efficient so they can reduce their energy consumption, save money through lower home heating costs, and lessen the impact of energy use on the environment.
The starting point is to have a Residential Energy Assessment of your home. The cost of this work will be $50 or $200 to the homeowner, depending on the size of home. This will provide benchmark information against which a follow-up assessment will be compared. The up front cost will cover the cost of both the initial assessment and the follow-up assessment which is performed after you have completed your improvements.
The actual assistance to you the homeowner will be a grant equal to 20% of eligible costs (including HST), to a maximum of $2,000 or an interest free loan of up to $10,000 repayable over a maximum 6-year term.
What qualifies as eligible expenses is quite extensive but we will share with you the assistance that is available for the products we sell.
- Replacement of a non-EPA rated wood burning appliance with a wood or pellet model that meets certain standards.
- New chimney if required as part of the installation of a new heating system
- Solar hot water systems that meet certain standards
- New Ductless Mini-Split heat pumps that meet certain standards

We now carry the Valor line of Radiant Gas Fireplaces. There were a number of features that attracted to us Valor, but perhaps none more significant than the great solutions they have for the heritage homes in the Greater Saint John area with old coal fireplaces. Two other reasons was the fact that they operate efficiently without power and they have an automatic pilot light.
Valor also has electric fireplaces which can be an excellent solution for those old coal fireplaces.
